Quetion!! transfer to UCLA

I'm planning to apply for UCLA transfer this year. but they say if you are in community college more than 2 years, it is so hard to get acceptance. Is it ture??
I'm an international student.

No, that's not true. But being an international student may affect your chances of admission since you're not a California resident.

i dont think its harder if uve been there for more than 2 years... seems like a lot of people take have taken longer and still get in.

No, in fact UCLA states on their publication "Answers for Transfers" that they give special consideration to non-traditional students (usually older students who take a break from school and take longer than the average two year plan) so I think you actually have an advantage if you apply and address this issue in your personal statement.

Thanks, guys!!!

Hey, that's how I got in....lol. Just kidding, look at UCLA's residency's requirements in Answers for Transfers and no, a definitive "no", you may take all the time in the world to transfer. Heck, I did and I got into UCLA, Berkeley, Columbia, U Penn and Harvard.

For UCLA, what's most important is 1) your grades, 2)personal statement is very strong consideration, 3) extra-curriculars, and 4) completion of the TAP program, if you're in CA that is.. If you're not in CA, complete the first three and get a very high GPA, depending on major of course..

Good luck to you! Go Bruins....

No worries there.. I am also an international student and just got into ucla. All i can say is do what you gotta do and pray for the best~ good luck

Bruin Michelle you got in to Penn and Harvard? As much as I love UCLA I think I would have taken the ivy league route if I were you.

i wouldnt.. UCLA is my dream school... and ivy leagues are just expensive wastes of money. IMO you're highly dilusional if you think you're getting a better education because you're paying more for it. i guess it really is true, the more you pay for something, the more u value it.

Mexbruin..well, it's like this my whole life is here: work, family, friends, house near beach, and church, not to mention I am a jazz singer and...one really doesn't need an advanced degree in Lit. to sing, am I right? Furthermore, I'd like to keep my expenses low as I am saving up for some big purchases in the coming years (wedding, paying off car, etc...you know, the usual). Frankly, I'm not too impressed by any undergrad program at the aforementioned schools, so if in the future I'd like to pursue grad school, then I'll keep those schools in mind, of course.

How sweet of you to comment though. And furthermore, I'm just not a big fan of private schools and the absurd notion that an Ivy league degree will equal future success and monetary gain....lol. Frankly, my life for so long has not been fun, lots of family drama as you can imagine, so I really want to go to UCLA and have fun and take part in a larger community and find friends with shared interests without all the pretentious, homogenized atmosphere of your typical Ivy's undergrad program. I've seen other College Discussion boards.....and trust me, those people are really not the type of people I'd like to associate.

What is "TAP"? Is it different from IGETC?

TAP is a transfer achievement program... you do it with the IGETC.. its just you do the honors program at your school which is taking 6 honors courses

I can see where your'e coming from Michelle and see why you'd stay but still that's awesome that you are ivy league material.

thanks, tncpauld
