Quick ACT English Question

I was just running through some of the practice questions when I came across the question
The reason that our team did not win was because our key players had injuries.

It's from the Barron's ACT 2007 and you only need to mark correct/incorrect. Answer: Incorrect
Explanation: Equate a noun (reason) with a noun structure (the clause "that our key players had injuries")

I can't seem to grasp this concept from this short explanation, anyone care to help me out? Thanks

Don't worry about it. the ACT english is like common sense, nothing like that. Besides, barrons could be wrong. I found grammatical errors in Barrons 2400.

LOL WHAT?

i honestly haven't seen anything like that on the ACT the times i've taken it. just remember that barrons is notorious for being TOO MUCH information.

i'm assuming what it is saying is that you can't say "reason..because..." rather, you'd say "reason...is/was that..."

ya?

The structure "the reason.... was because" is an incorrect structure.

at first, i was like "wth is wrong with that sentence?" and then i got it lol "was because" is wrong.

Anyways, kevin is right. Barrons sometimes has errors in their own tests/answers...i found like 2.

The correct sentence is:

The reason our team did not win was that our key players had injuries.
