Quick AP Chem Question

Something is polar if the difference in electronegativity is .5 and above, correct?

I thought the rule was less than 1.7. My chem teacher says that a better rule with fewer exceptions is it's a nonmetal with another nonmetal. As long as it's not symmetrical it's polar.

Thanks...

I agree with mikeyc. Although the AP test is evil in nature, it rarely tries to trick you.
