hey guys, i'm interested in applying to umich ea. (LSA) my major will probably be biology, although i'm looking into econ right now. i'm OOS.

race: asian
gender: male
school: ranked a top 50 high school by us news. sends ~10-15 kids to ivies every year.
class rank: does not rank

umich gpa: 3.845. all my number grades are higher than 90 though, if number grades matter at all.

SAT: 2240. (770cr/690m/780w)
SAT2: math2: 790
will take biology or chem in october.

class rigor: all my classes are honors
i will take 9 AP classes, 10 AP tests by the time i graduate.

honors: average to above average
extracurricular: average to above average
essays: haven't started, but probably average? lol
recs: hopefully above average.

i don't usually like to do these threads, but reading on the forum has made me a bit cautious about my chances. what do you guys think?

Safe match. If you apply ER (early response), your chances are very good.

The way Michigan recalcultates GPAs is by eliminating minuses and pluses. So all As are 4.0, all Bs are 3.0 all Cs are 2.0 etc…

So, if 90% is an A- at your school, your unweighed GPA is 4.0. Either way, 3.8+ is good enough along with your tough course schedule and your good SAT.

thanks alexandre. that’s really good to hear. hopefully umich considers my sat 2 score more than the SAT math section.

and qwertykey, no i’m not really from south park lol. i have been close to south park though. a few years back i went to colarado for vacation, and was like an hour away from there. =]
nah i’m just a fan of the show, and put south park to throw off potential stalkers. lol.

thanks for the responses guys! i really appreciate it. you guys are much kinder and more active than some other school forums.

just to make sure, assuming i get accepted in december or something, i can still decide if i want to go or not in the spring right?

aaand, looking at the other thread on this forum, do i have a good chance at getting some merit scholarship? what part of my application should i work on to improve my chances?
