I promise, my list is final this time. I'm considering applying to some new schools, and I need chances just to make sure I'm not wasting my time.

GPA: 2.3-2.5
Rank: Bottom 20% (out of 99)
SAT: 1030/1600, 1590/2400 (Math 530, Reading 500, Writing 560)
ACT: Taken on 10/27/07, waiting for scores

Reason for low grades is my essay topic, which has been getting good reviews from everyone I give it to.

Applying for Sport Management to the following:

James Madison
Old Dominion
Ohio U. (already applied)
Marshall (already applied)
Ohio State

My concerns are OSU, ODU, and JMU. Are they a waste of my time? Based on SAT scores, I seem to be on the higher end of the middle 50% in each subject at ODU and near the lower part of the middle 50% at JMU and OSU, but I'm still not sure. Help within the next 2 hours would be great as I'm about to finalize the applications and would hate to waste my mom's money. Thanks.

OSU and James Madision have gotten a lot more competitive in recent years. Unfortunately, both are reaches. I would add a couple of more schools to your list if you do decide to apply to them. Have you looked at Bowling Green? They have one of the best Sport Management programs in the nation and are widely considered in the top 3 along with UMASS and Ohio. Also, Kent State has a Sport Management major, but I don't know much about the school. You may have better chances at these 2 schools than at OSU and James Madison. Sorry, I don't know anything about ODU. Good luck!

Bowling Green was actually on my last list, but I'm having second thoughts. I don't know why. I probably will apply there though when it comes down to it.

As for adding other schools, I just can't find any more that interest me. There's a few state schools that have Sport Management (Indiana PA, California PA, Slippery Rock), but I want to go out of state. All of the other nearby schools that offer it are a little out of my range.

Are you looking for D1 football/basketball? I know that St Johns (NY), East Carolina (Sports Studies), Western Carolina and Lynchburg (VA) have Sport Management programs. They may be worth a shot. How far do you want to travel?

D-1 sports would be nice, and I'm also trying to keep it limited to states surrounding PA (MD, NJ, OH, VA, NY, WV). Marshall is in WV, and I'm not too impressed with WVU after some of the stuff I read about it.

Ok I thought you might want D1. Some of these might be a little further away and some are more difficult to get into than others, but they might be worth looking into. Louisville, Memphis, Western Michigan, Temple and Seton Hall. Memphis and WMU seem to take a good amount of students in your gpa range. Also, I think your SAT scores are fine for most of the schools you are looking at. Another school that I believe is pretty well respected but not D1 is Springfield in Ma. I think you will get into some of the schools you are looking at.
