quick essay question

If I want to respond to this:

At the University of Maryland, we value a diverse community. How have your life experiences and background shaped you into an individual who will enrich the University of Maryland community? (2-3 pages)

Should I stick to one story and narrate it in present tense, or should I write it in third person and talk about several experiences? My counselor thinks that all essays written for college must be in present tense and describe one event, but I don’t think that works on every situation.

you can write in any way you want
the thing is that it should answer the question asked
how can you write your experiences in present?
better you define past important events(remember you can write more than one but not much otherwise they will be jumbled up- better 2 or 3 only) and their effects in present tense
that can make good essay
