quick ? for current students

so i heard most of the ivys (Penn Harvard Yale P'ton) have killer intro classes which can suck. is Dartmouth notorious for intro classes meant to 'weed out' students? can any of these classes be taken care of with AP credits?

Two words: Bio 15.

^Yeah, I've heard that one's a toughie. Pretty much any of the large lecture classes frequented by pre-meds (myself included) could be described to a certain extent as "weed-out". For example, I took chem 5 and my prof was a nice guy, but just wasn't a good teacher. This term in chem 6, things seem to have much improved (different prof), so I suppose it's hit-or-miss.

I do believe that several of them can be avoided with APs though.
-A 5 in Bio gets you out of an "unspecified" bio course
-A 5 in Chem gets you out of Chem 5
-There is some form of credit awarded for Physics, but not sure what it is.
-A 4/5 on AB Calc places you in Math 8, and a 4/5 on BC gets you into math 11.
You can also take one or more placement tests in lieu of these during orientation (I know you can ultimately place out of Chem 6 with one).
