Hey, so I am applying as a transfer applicant to a few top 20 schools for fall 2010, and I am concerned about my GPA. I am not going to mention the name of the schools, but they are both consistently ranked around 17 on USnews. I am currently at a large state school. I am a first semester freshman, and my GPA is going to be around 3.5ish. This is due to the two honors courses I have taken this semester (Chemistry and English). Would admissions committees favor an applicant with a higher GPA but lighter course load, or an applicant with a lower GPA but heavy course load? In high school, my GPA was 3.9 unweighted and 4.0 weighted. I also got a 30 on my ACT. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Bump!!!

Just as with fr admissions, both gpa and course rigor are considered for transfer decisions. However, any conclusion about which is better, tougher courses/lower gpa or easier courses/higher gpa, would be mere speculation.
