Quick Grammar Question

If I begin a sentence with “Then and now, …” and continue with a noun as the subject of the sentence, should I conjugate my verb in the past or present tense?

Two thoughts:

  1. If a construction leads to confusing grammar, change it! Use a different sentence starter.
  2. I think using “have” works, though: “Then and now, I have tried...” “Then and now, I have wondered.” “I always have tried...” “I always have wondered.” “Throughout my high school years, I have tried...” “Since I first began playing soccer, I have...”

Not enough information.
