Quick Grammar Question

I'm having trouble with comma usage in relation to adjectives.
Did I use the commas correctly?

I take in that first deep, calming breath

AND

in frilly, yellow dresses

anyone know? (puppy face :))

I had to get a new keyboard put in to answer this...my D spilled orange juice on mine!

Your first example is correct with the comma. You have two adjectives there that should be separated by a comma.

In the second example I would not use a comma. Usually when there is a color word preceded by another adjective you do not use the comma. (This is from The Chicago Manual of Style, which is the standard used in publishing books.) Think of these examples:

ten red trucks
one white lily
big black fly

The current trend is away from using commas so much, but one tip is that if you can insert the word "and" where the comma would be(speaking of multiple adjectives), then you should use it.

ok thank you so much!

In your first example, the breath was calming and it was deep but not "deep calming" So comma is correct. In the second example, the dress was yellow. It was a yellow dress and this yellow dress was frilly. So, no comma. Is that any help?
