Quick help (financial (not aid) forms)

Any one here who's applying to Vanderbilt, Rice, Cornell, Brown on NO financial aid? What are the 'financial' forms that I have to file?
From my search:

Cornell: None
Brown: None
Vanderbilt: international fin aid appl form (even tho i'm not asking for aid?)
Rice: there's one certification of finances form for int studs

Am I right?

Vanderbilt does not require any financial forms with your application. If you are admitted and decide to enroll, you will have to submit the "International Student Financial Statement" as they call it.

But the website says I need to send the international fin aid form (it calls international supplement) for my appl to be complete?

Are you 100% sure that the "International Supplement" refers to the International Student Financial Aid Application and is required of all students? Because at other parts of the website, the fin aid application is explicitly called fin aid application and not international supplement:

Vanderbilt has a limited amount of need-based financial aid for international students (defined as non-U.S. citizens who lack U.S. permanent resident status). Interested students must complete the International Student Financial Aid Application

What forms do I need to complete to be considered for international financial aid?

To be considered for International Financial Aid you should complete the international student financial aid application, which you can find online.

International FAQ

I don't know about Vanderbilt but some colleges require an extra supplement of international students. Bryn Mawr for example has an international supplement that mainly asks for another application essay ("Write a letter to your prospective roommate highlighting why you are unique.")

OK but I still think it's weird. Why does one part of the website say that every international applicant has to file the fin aid application while other parts say "IF you want to apply for fin aid, complete this form"? It doesn't make sense, especially considering that they have yet another financial form that all international students have to complete after accepting their offer of admission (International Student Financial Statement).

I would check with the admission office whether they really want the fin aid application before submitting it... (If it's mistakenly listed as an application requirement for all students and you submit it, you may accidentally be put into the pool of international fin aid applicants which is more competitive than the regular pool).

It would be wise to not fill out the form and just send the proof that you can pay?

I would ask the admission office because it may or may not be a mistake on their website.

When you check the Web Archive you will notice that Vanderbilt redesigned their website in between last December and this December. According to the old website, international students were not eligible to apply for need-based aid (so no international financial aid application) but they had to submit an international supplement (which unfortunately did not get archived). Maybe Vanderbilt got rid of the international supplement this year while introducing the fin aid application form - and whoever redesigned the website did not realize the change and left the international supplement in the list of required documents, linking it to the new financial aid application.

Maybe this theory sounds a little bit far-fetched but it is certainly no more absurd than a policy that requires all international students to submit a financial aid application...

the deadline is Jan 3, the office should open on the jan 2..

No one cares if the fin aid application (if it is required) is a week late. A lot of test scores will arrive after the deadline, mid-year school reports will arrive after the deadline etc. and colleges cannot start reviewing applications until they are complete. As long as the application itself is in by Jan 3, you are fine.

It may be a good idea to complete the fin aid application anyway in the meantime. If it ended up being required AND totally vital that they got it on time, you could still fax it before the deadline.

they'll know thru common application whether you're applying for aid or not right?

Sometimes people change their mind. In some other forum (I am not sure whether it was the parents or the fin aid forum) someone said the he indicated on the Common App that he was not going to apply for fin aid but changed his mind. The general consensus was that he would still be considered for fin aid if he submitted the fin aid application on time.

It may or may not be true and may or may not apply to international students, but if someone were to submit a financial aid application I would assume that he is applying for financial aid...

I think there is indeed an error because an ''international supplement'' is never related with ''ISFAA''...and besides that, when someone does not want aid, it is not required at all (the ISFAA, that is)..
Someone should inform them or clear the things immediately...

do you mean there's another form that international students should fill?

It depends on them, whether they want an additional essay from int'l students or not (Many colleges want it)...
