If you guys could chance a friend of mine that would be great. I don't really think she has a great shot of acceptance, but I don't want to be cynical. We're both from Nebraska. She's applying to UC Berkley. Here's her current stats

GPA- 3.8ish (her words, not mine)
ACT- 28 Composite (28 across the board, 10 on the writing)
SAT- Didn't take
SAT II- Didn't take
AP's- 5's- US History
4's- AP Language and Composition
3's- AP World
Course Rigor- Not really that great to be perfectly honest, but she does have some AP's lined up this year such as AP Literature, AP Calc BC, and AP Stat

EC's
- National Honor Society
- Some neighborhood volunteering
- She did band but dropped out

She's from a relatively wealthy family (parents are both doctors), so she won't need scholarships. What do you gage are her chances? Is it any harder to get in from out of state? Thanks guys!

She’s top 25% class rank, and I believe she’s applying for a math major. Is it really that hard to get in?

Bump haha had to do it

There is no way she will get in UC Berkeley unless she is an extraordinary writer or won a national award or something…

I’ll admit I’m not confident in it either, but will the university really reject a full paying OOS with her stats?

Freshman Profile for 2014 UCB:

GPA 3.89 (unweighted)
4.39 (weighted)
ACT (25th & 75th percentiles) 29-34

Her Stats are below the 25th percentiles, so full pay or not, UCB is a Reach.

why not UC Merced, UC riverside or UC san diego?

UCSD would still be a reach. UCR/UCM/UCSC would be matches. UCI/UCSB/UCD could be High Matches if the UC GPA is 4.0+.

I would suggest UCI or UCSC or UCD. UC Berkeley is not realistic - her stats are not that good for UC Berkeley even if she’s full pay. If she had ACT 30 and more than 3 APs that will be counted she may have had a better shot.
There are universities in California where she’d be competitive, especially if she’s full pay, such as U San Diego, LMU-LA or Chapman. Occidental as a reach.
