and am working on my cal poly slo app today.

anyways, i took math in middle school.
i took elemnertary algebra, and geometry, which count.

so i put both of them down for 8th grade. and i just estimated my grades.. also i put quarter instead of semester, because in ms we were on the quarter system.

I saw I only had 8 math credits though, and when I changed it to semester I had 10 credits.

does it really matter? or whats the proper way to do it?

A. should i guess my grade? or should i just say pass
B. should i put semester even though we got graded on the quarters, so it says 10 units of math?

please help!!

also if i did it wrong for the sdsu app that i already submitted is there anyway to change it?? or would it not matter and should i not worry about it?

please re-assure me that it doesnt make a difference for sdsu haha, but i think cal poly does look at course rigor. am i good for sdsu haha?? i already sent it in!!

also, for cal poly, which way should i do it?? thanks!!

I don’t think anybody can understand what you are talking about. At least I can’t. Did you take any math in high school after these middle school classes? Why not just list that. And I don’t know what you mean by rigor.

Yes, I took math in high school. But I took “high school level” math classes when I was in middle school.

I took elementary algebra and geometry.

So, I put these both on my CSU application under A-G math. I put them both under 8th grade, even though one was in 7th grade, because the lowest option is 8th grade on the pull down menu. Is that right?

I kept it at my highschool, instead of changing schools to my middle school, I think the changing schools option is for changing highschool and is for high school transfer students, is thatright?

In middle school, we used the quarter system. Having both of those under quarter, I have 8 semesters of math overall. However, when I switched it to semester like all my other HS classes, it changed to 10. Which is what it should be? I already submitted my SDSU app with the by quarter with 8… What should I do here?

So, how should I go about this with my Cal Poly SLO app?

And if I messed up with my SDSU app, is there anyway to fix it? Or is it all good, and those small details won’t affect my SDSU at all, or was I actually correct the way I did it for SDSU?

Don’t you have to send transcripts? They’ll probably figure it out from that anyway. If you made a mistake and it isn’t past the deadline, you can probably fix it, although I don’t think this will make much difference.

I still don’t completely get what happened, and you still aren’t giving enough information because to know how many semesters of math you have we need to know how many total years of math you took in high school. If you are worried about this because of GPA it only matters the GPA in high school - form CSU mentor it says -
Your high school grade point average is calculated on all A-G courses completed after grade 9.

If you are worried about getting the minimum number of classes I think you only need three years of math.

If there isn’t a spot for seventh grade it probably doesn’t count, but I don’t know for sure.

lskaiwalk: Call Cal Poly admissions and ask. I think if you put geometry as an 8th grader they will assume you took Alg as a 7th grader. I understand your concern about a-g but it is better to be cautous and call them for sure. As a high school student have you taken Math all four years? If so you will still be fine as far as rigor is concerned.

My son applied to Cal Poly SLO. The admissions officer we spoke with during a tour said to definitely include middle school math - this is how some applicants end up with 5 (or in the OP’s case 6) years of math. I believe 8th grade math showed up on my son’s high school transcript as well.

Yes, that’s what you’ll have to do. Was your middle school 3 quarters or 4? Just treat each of your 2 middle school math classes as if they were a full year (2 semesters).

also, i put quarters for sdsu, and it only bosted it up 1 year for the both combined rather than 2. anyhting i can do about that. i already submitted my sdsu app. i dont think it matters though cus they have a formulafor admission rather than poly which owuld look at rigor.

Can you find out the grades? (Call the school… Dig through your records…) Don’t know if it’s a big deal or not, but most applicants have them. SDSU & Cal Poly’s apps are pretty much the same.

in addition to getting the middle school grades, I would get them onto your h.s. transcript–talk t your gc to find out what the procedure is-- that way, they are verifiable when you do get admitted and are asked ot send transcripts when you accept.

DEFINATELY call Cal Poly and SDSU admission office. We had some questions, so I called Cal Poly, and they were very nice, and emphasized that is what they are there for. Better to ask each school and do what they say than guess and be wrong.

also, the CSUs do NOT want your high school transcripts unless THEY request it. all of your courses and grades are self reported on their application.

I would call SDSU and tell them how you submitted your classes, and ask if it is OK, and if not, there is a procedure for submitting corrections.
