Quick housing question

I'm aware of USC's date averaging for housing assignments and I've heard that most Birnkrant dorms go to scholarship kids. I was wondering if one of my roommates signed up in early Feb. and the other one and I signed up around March 25, would we still have a chance at a triple? Is it common for scholarship kids to room together, allowing their average to be higher than the regular admitted kids rooming with scholarship kids? Also, is Birnkrant going to be exclusively honor/scholarship kids this year, or is it still open to general freshmen?

It’s open to everyone. If you pick your friends as roommates then you might get in a triple together. Maybe. USC doesn’t publish stats like “GPA by dorm” so I doubt they’d care at all about whether the average GPA in Birnkrant is higher.

…OP meant date…^

This year, Birnkrant is only for scholarship students, so all roommates would need to be Trustee or Presidential scholars.

Seriously? Not even lower level scholarships like Dean’s? That seems kind of weird to only allow the couple hundred kids who got those awards to claim an entire dorm.

Where is this stated? The University Residential College seems to be a part of Birnkrant, not all-inclusive.

The housing office said Deans is included in Birnkrant. They are very nice in the housing office and you can call there and ask anything you want.

Thanks for the input everyone. Hopefully I will be able to get Birnkrant by some stroke of luck. I really hope its not going to be like 99% scholarship kids :/

Okay I just called housing and they said it was only Trustee/Presidential… this sucks…

Hmm, that’s strange. Did you happen to ask them why?

No I didn’t really get a chance… Perhaps someone else could try calling and see if they say the same thing? Its weird that housing told earlier posters that Dean’s was included and then told me something different. I’m really hoping she might have been wrong…

FWIW my info is from Housing. I used to work there when I was a student and still keep in touch with the full timers.

Thanks for your help trojanchick… I just wonder why they told stalkermama otherwise :frowning: It guess its just wishful thinking on my part

That’s bizarre! Birnkrant and NN used to be kindred spirits my freshman year…(Very social dorms.) I guess this means more scholarships, which is always nice – but wow! That’s a big dorm to make so exclusive!

I called today. Ill call again and see what they say tomorrow!

What about Birnkrant doubles, are those also taken?

@femmefatal if what Housing said is true, ALL of Birnkrant is reserved for only Presidential/Trustee

That would surprise me. I am not sure how many presidential/trustees there are, but it would seem that Birkrant holds more people than that. Also, all pres/trustees might not have Birkrant as their #1 choice. I would guess that the majority of Birkrant is presidential/trustees just due to the fact they found out earlier, so they could register for housing on the first open day. I think I am going to call USC housing tomorrow to find out. D is a trustee, but some of the kids she has talked to about rooming together are not. I’m thinking she would prefer to be in a dorm with a mix of kids.

@dumbo11 Housing did say that if a Trustee/Presidential had one or two non-scholarship roommates, they could still get a room in Birnkrant. Its those of us without a major scholarship winner roommate that have to worry. Birnkrant could probably fill up with all the scholarship kids plus their regular roommates, couldn’t it? Please do try calling, I am interested to see if they say something different.

Actually I was wrong, Birnkrant will be ONLY Trustee/Presidential, no regular students or lesser scholarship winners, even as roommates. I am interested to see how they will go about this given that I’ve heard Birnkrant is relatively large and there’s only like 300 scholarship recipients, right?
