quick math question

if 10,000 microns= 1 centimeter
and 100,000 angstrom units= 1 centimeter,
how many angstrom units equal 1 micron

how do you do this question?

Well, 10,000 microns = 100,000 angstrom units if they are both equal to a centimeter.

Then you can set it up in a ratio:

10,000 microns over 100,000 angstrom units = 1 micron over X angstrom units

Then you can just solve the ratio. (100,000 angstrom units times 1 micron) divided by 10,000 microns equals 10 angstrom units.

Alternately, if you just see when you set up the right side of the ratio that you can "cross out" the zeros to find the ratio of 1 to 10, you can do it that way.

I think that's right...I'm not exactly the math genius around here though.

if 10,000 microns= 1 centimeter
and 100,000 angstrom units= 1 centimeter,
how many angstrom units equal 1 micron

Well, since both 10,000 microns and 100,000 angstrom units equal 1 cm, it can be inferred that:

10,000 microns = 100,000 angstrom units

Now divide each side by 10,000 so that you get 1 micron = ? angstrom units.

Your answer should be: 1 micron = 10 angstrom units.

sry but i got 2 more questions the 1o real test book i have doesnt tell how the answer was found:

1) Gear A has 72 teeth and Gear B has 48 teeth how many complete revolutions does gear A make when gear B makes 9 revolutions?s

2) Bill and his son tommy together weighs 250lbs. If Bill weight is 10 pounds more than 3 times Tommys, what is Tommy in lbs.

I did 3(x + 10) + 30= 250 but its not right what did i do wrong?

Thanx,

I wont ask anymore questions

1) 48 x 9 = 432

so.. 72 x what = 432??

ANSWER: 6

2) this could be wrong though...

3x-10=250-x

x=65

2) Bill and his son tommy together weighs 250lbs. If Bill weight is 10 pounds more than 3 times Tommys, what is Tommy in lbs.

Let B= Bill's weight and T=Tommy's weight.
B+T=250
B-10=3T

With that, you get:
T=250-B
B-10=3(250-B)
4T=760, T=190

Substituting that back into the original, B=60

Oh, oops all you needed to find was Tommy's weight. It's 190lbs.

i dont get how you get b-10=3t

hehe I just took that test 2 hours ago....
Math - 700 (missed 2, left 5 blank, eh I'm going to slow on Math)
Verbal - 530 (I suck)

Sister Math - 450 (7th grader and didn't know she could use a calc)
Verbal - 600 (kicked my butt that's sad)

But to your question
2) Bill and his son tommy together weighs 250lbs. If Bill weight is 10 pounds more than 3 times Tommys, what is Tommy in lbs.

Bill + Tom = 250
Bill = 3(Tom) + 10, this is how the other person got B - 10 = 3T (rewrote the equation)

Now that you have B + T = 250 and B = 3T + 10, Plug "B = 3T + 10 into the other equation for B:

3T + 10 + T = 250
Solve:
4T + 10 = 250
Algebra from here:
T = 60, therefore Tommy is 60 lbs.
I got this right by the way. Hope that helps.

And if anyone could tell me how to do that sequence problem faster it would be great, I did it by hand.... not time efficient for SAT

The first term of a sequence is -3 and every term after the first is 5 more than the term immediatley preceding it. What is the value of the 101st term?
Answer: 497, (I just want to know how to do it faster)

for the orignial question since i think the 250 one has been qualified try this

if 10,000 microns= 1 centimeter
and 100,000 angstrom units= 1 centimeter,
how many angstrom units equal 1 micron

I'm pretty sure this is how u do it

start with 1 micron

now u do equivalent fractions

u have 1 micron and u want to get rid of microns so now put it in the denomintor

so: micron X 1 cm
___________10,0000 microns since ur multiply by 1 since there equavilent

then u want to get rid of cm so put cm in the denom

micron X 1 cm X 100,000 angs
_____10,000 mic1 cm

the cm cancel out and the microns cancel out but u have 1/10,000 multiply this by 1000,000 angs and u get 10 angs equivalent to the orginnal micron i explained this completely wrong haha but this is the proper way ill try to find a website that explains this

if u have time and have difficulty with this concept go here: it may take a while but it explains it really well atleast browse through it since its a concept ull need to know for the math sat 1s and IIs prob
