Can we bring an umbrella on an airplane? I can't find the answer anywhere on the TSA website. I'm going to be flying domestically with no luggage (just my keys and watch).

As long as you don’t intend to beat anyone over the head with it, I don’t see why not.

[TSA: Prohibited Items](http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm)

Does “carry-on” mean you put it in a small bag and put it in the small space above your head when you’re seated or does it mean you hold it with your hand throughout the flight?

Carry-on means you carry it onto the plane regardless of whether you choose to put it in overhead or under the seat (you’re not allowed to physically hold any bags during flight). Or you can check your bags at the service counter ( your bags are stored under the plane in cargo space.)

You also want to check the size and weight of your carry-ons. Make sure they comply.

Remember: The TSA employs some of the most bitter people in the world. You don’t want to mess with them.

I don’t know if bitter is the best word. Unintelligent yes, but maybe that comes off as bitterness?

I won’t have any carry-ons…just a watch, eye-glass, wallet, pen, and a professional portfolio thing for interview.

I won’t have any carry-ons…just a watch, wallet, umbrella, eye-glass, pen, and a professional portfolio. I lost the back cover of my watch, so they might think I “tampered” with it.

Perhaps you should just go buy a $6 watch at a drug store.

What is wrong with a backpack?

What are you planning on doing on the plane?

Have you ever flown before?

Nothing is wrong with a backpack. I just don’t want to bring one to an interview.
Nothing really.
No, this is my first time.
