Do they sell them at the colleges? I heard they are expensive. Are students able the use leftover money from their financial aid account to purchase them from the school?

the left over money is given to you in the form of a check. for example, tuition was 4000 but you received 5000 from loans and aid, you will get a check for 1000 dollars.

if you can, try not to buy the books from the bookstore because the prices are jacked up

half.com or search amazon.com or any discount online website

I’d recommend used books. I looked around online and the new book prices were definitely overpriced and usually like 30-40 bucks cheaper online than at my school bookstore, but I bought all of mine used from my school, and actually did quite well. I went to the store early, and so I ended up getting the used ones that looked new. I kid you not, my biology and french books still creak when I open them.

I spent like 460 bucks for Bio, Chem, French, and English, including lab and activity manuals. Not bad since the book will probably last me all year for the most part.

Do i receive the leftover cash after paying the 1st semester bills or after the end of the year?

Depends on the school. At mine, they give you the extra after financial aid is released (which was sometime this week/last week) and it is applied to housing and tuition. They release fin aid twice in the year, before each semester. Then they give you any left over but it takes a few days after it is applied before you actually get the money.
