Quick question about collegeboard.com

at collegeboard.com when it shows incoming HS GPAs, is it weighted or unweighted that they are displaying? This would REALLY change the schools I'm considering. For example University of Washington accepts 61% of their applicants, seems easy to get in, huh?

I look closer and see that 54% of incoming freshman this past year had an incoming h.s. gpa of 3.75 or better! Really? How can they accept so many students and retain such high gpa standards? There's no way the majority of the students applying have a 3.75 + uw gpa when it's a state school! So can someone tell me if the calculation is weighted or unweighted? Thanks!

My bet would be that they are unweighted. GPAs are easier to compare that way since different schools have different ways of calculating weighted GPAs (same is true to UW, but more so for weighted)

Thanks. I really don’t see how they accept 61% (a majority) of their applicants but then have GPA standards comparable to much lower acceptance rate colleges. How can West Chester University accept 49% of their students:

With SUPER low GPA standards, while UW accepts 61% extremely higher standards? Something doesn’t add up here. Lol sorry I’m just really stressed! Is there any logical explanation for this disparity?

The students applying to UW are just better. Notice that the standardized test scores are higher as well. Since UW is one of THE schools for Washington they get many of the brightest in the state applying. West Chester is a smaller local school and does not have the same draw.

Obviously the university wants to present itself in the best light possible. Therefore they must be weighted grades (they probably reweight them using a standardized system).

What looks better?
Our student body had an average of 3.75 gpa in high school!

or

Our student body had an average of 3.25 gpa in high school!

With the same exact data set you could have either scenario depending on if you weighted or not.
