Quick Question about Early Action

If you apply Early Action somewhere, do other universities know that you applied to a certain school with Early Action? Or do they have no clue? I've been considering Early Action for Stanford (my DREAM SCHOOL!!!) but my mom says that if I do, other universities are going to see it so she discouraged me from doing so.

No, but if you do apply early action to Stanford, you can't apply early action anywhere else (that's why it's called SINGLE choice early action.)

Ohh thank you. Haha I don't plan on applying early action anywhere else. But that definitely helps a lot.

PS. That is a no, they don't see right? Lol!

Other schools will only see that you have applied to Stanford and that you have chosen not to apply early action to their institution, but it certainly won't hurt your chances at other universities to apply early action to Stanford. Beware though, you could get in and have a horrendous Financial Aid Package from Stanford and a full ride at another prestigious school but not know it until too late...

So basically they're just going to see that I applied to Stanford and that's it? Yeah the financial aid thing is the only thing that's making me second-guess applying SCEA.

BTW Thank you!

Yeah they will basically just see that you applied to Stanford and that's it. My sister applied early action to a school and didn't make it in, but that decision didn't affect the rest of her app (she applied early action to Brown, but still got into UMich honors and several other excellent honors programs)

Let's set some fact straight. When you apply to Stanford SCEA, no other school will know that you apply to Stanford unless you tell them. You cannot apply to any other school early decision or early action but you can apply to other school as a regular decision applicant. In fact you can complete your RD application to other schools as early as you want.

We've already established that, but all other schools will know that she has applied to Stanford, they just won't know she applied early action. You have to indicate where else you have applied on an app...

Have you done a common app? I do not believe you need to indicate where else you have applied on an app if you do not want to. And this is the point I try to make.

But on supplemental apps its a whole different story, and not all schools take the common app

Even if they ask, you are not obligated to inform them. This is not a question that will disqualify you if you do not give out the information. I do not think it will hurt but I just want OP to know the fact regarding this matter.

Ohh um thank you lol. Getting a tad heated but it's all friendly and good.

Keep in mind that unlike ED, SCEA is non-binding, so as other posters said, you can indeed apply to other schools RD, and compare financial aid packages. You do not need to tell Stanford whether you intend to attend their institution until May 1 - the same day as most other schools.

On a separate but related question, can you apply EA while applying ED somewhere? (w/the exception of BC and Georgetown)

^ Yes, but your EA choice can't be Stanford or Yale.

No colleges see where else you applied. If they ask, you are not obligated to tell them. NO one sees where you apply ED or EA except you and your college advisor, (and teachers who write recs maybe). AND the advantage of getting in somewhere in Dec, is enormous. APPLY EA TO STANFORD IF YOU WANT TO GO THERE.....

Some ED schools, such as Brown, will not allow you to apply EA anywhere if you apply to them ED. You need to read the fine print for each school to which you intend to apply.

Other schools may not know where you applied, but there have been several threads stating that schools can see where else you send your FAFSA.

This seems to be an incorrect statement. The Common Application FAQ and the Universal College Application FAQ both deny that any other college knows where you have applied through their online application process.
