Quick question about enrollment fee's

I applied to a few colleges in the beginning of December. I've heard back from 3 of the 4 (accepted to all) however, I haven't been given admission/rejection notification from IU-Bloomington yet. The thing is, I haven't paid enrollment fee's for the 3 I've been accepted to because I don't want to lose money and I haven't received news from all my applications yet. However, I get notices in the mail every day it seems asking that I please send my enrollment fee in because the schools may have to start a wait-list due to application overload. All the letters discuss housing and schedules beginning this month and I don't want to screw myself over by not paying. I'm just not sure what school I want to go to and IU is my first choice (go figure) How long is it okay to wait before I lose an opportunity to go to any school? I know the deadline is May 1st but, what's the ACTUAL date? You know what I mean.

If you’ve been accepted, you’ve been accepted. As far as I know, that means the ACTUAL date for sending your enrollment deposit is May 1.

That may not be true for housing. Some schools have separate housing deposits - refundable if you end up not going there. No harm, no foul. Some such schools encourage you to send in your housing deposit asap, because there is a housing shortage.

This issue is discussed in TRansfer Admissions 101 sticky thread, but for a short answer suggestion: call IU and see if they can give you a response due to your needing to respond to other schools to secure housing. And/or call your top choice of the schools you have in hand - and ask for an extension or whether your deposit can be refunded if you receive an acceptance with a better finaid package (or whatever).

Last resort, you might lose a deposit if you send one to another school and then get the IU acceptance. Or, you might have housing problems if you decide not to send one in.
