Quick Question About Grade

If I received a 50 out of 102 on the first midterm with the median being an 80 and a 102 out of 102 with the median being a 100 what kind of grade am i looking at right now. They are both combined worth 35% of total grade. Can I get an A in this class?

standard deviation? how is the class curved: each test individually or final class grade curved at the end? if the its each test individually, is the 2nd midterm going to be negatively curved or just straight grading?

so to answer your question....it depends. :p

This sounds a lot like Physics1A, which I'm enrolled in. I didn't go to class today, but I heard that he said if everyone scores like this, everyone gets A's. I wouldn't worry too much about the first midterm, as the final is worth 55%. Just do well on that, and I think you're fine.

Yeah it is Physics 1A. Oh I see. So I would still be able to get an A? Thanks....

Nobody who knows what they're talking about can tell you that because it depends on how the class (and you) will do on the finals. You already lost 9% of your grade it looks like so an A- is not impossible but what you have to hope for is that the class does not do nearly as well on the finals as they did on the second midterm while you do very well

Yeah but won't the curve help me in any way? For the first midterm atleast?

In this case it hurts you much more than it helps.

According to our teacher, he said in no way will the curve hurt us it can only help... so yeah...

That usually means he'll use it if it helps and toss it out when it doesn't- in this case it doesn't help you so he'll probably straight curve it since the class seems to be doing strong and will probably end up doing strong on the finals

You're grasping at straws here if you're still trying to somehow figure out how a curve of the first exam will help your first exam results

lol my friend is in 1A as well.
random question- she's 5th on the waitlist for 4AL. is it likely she'll get in? there's 5 spots on the waitlist and only 20 in the lab... should she switch to a section where she'd be 2nd on the waitlist?
