quick question about honors for current students

can someone not in honors take honors classes (such as a H FYS like psych 120)?

all i could find online is that the only restricted class is great books, but anyone know for sure?

Yes, you can.

K I don’t think you can take honors classes but psych 120 is definitely not honors. But in general, if it is an all honors class I believe you have to be in honors.

You probably can’t take classes in the Honors department (i.e. Freshman/Sophomore seminars), but you should be able to take Honors classes in other departments. I even had a non-Honors classmate in Great Books, but she had to get an override.

Since there’s conflicting opinions, here is the class I was thinking about:

[LSA Course Guide](<a href=“FA 2012 | PSYCH 120 - First-Year Seminar in Psychology as a Social Science | Section 002 - Law and Psychology”>FA 2012 | PSYCH 120 - First-Year Seminar in Psychology as a Social Science | Section 002 - Law and Psychology)

So on the online course guide, the only important things to check for are “Enforced Prerequisites” and “Advisory Prerequisites.” Looking at the class you linked, there aren’t any enforced prereqs, but the advisory prereqs listed sound like they’re enforced. Either way, Honors is not a prereq.

You can also check this by clicking “View All Sections” and looking at “Open Restricted Seats.” There’s no mention of Honors for Psych 120 (“enrollment management” means that they open up spots periodically throughout the summer to be fair to people with late orientations). Here’s an example of a class that does have Honors restrictions: [LSA Course Guide](http://www.lsa.umich.edu/cg/cg_sections.aspx?content=1910HONORS135001&termArray=f_12_1910)
