Quick Question About Sending SAT Scores to NMSC

Hi everyone,
So I just sent my June SAT scores to National Merit today since I knew the deadline for them receiving scores was December 31st. However, today I looked on their requirements and it says that by November 2nd "Semifinalists who took an earlier authorized administration of the SAT should have requested the SAT Program to report scores to NMSC" and that students who do not submit their scores in a timely manner will be withdrawn from further consideration. Is November 2nd a concrete date for this, or will I still be considered for NMF as long as they get them by the end of December?
Sorry if this is a little petty; I just saw that today and I'm a little concerned I won't qualify anymore.
Thanks!

“December 31st”

I think November 2 would be the last SAT test to have scores on time for the deadline. You may submit any SAT scores earlier as long as it is received by the deadline which is in December.

S just received a letter from NMSC stating we never sent them the SAT score. However, on the College Board Send Score History it confirms we sent NMSC a score on July 12, 2013 from the 06/01/2013 test. Amazing the letter hits us on a Saturday and NMSC wants us to send a score with expedited processing/mailing. What horse crap! We have to request a score be sent from a third party but no way to guarantee they get it…

Kel…you’re fine.
It’s not too late to send the scores. Besides, with the storms delaying the Dec SAT, and tests being rescheduled for next week, NMCorp is going to be running behind anyway.

KCT…

Send the scores now, or wait til Monday after calling since you did have them sent last summer. And, maybe you’re going to have to contact Collegeboard because maybe CB never sent them.

The NMCorp code is 0085…make sure you sent to that.

CB verified the scores were sent. NMSC verified scores were not received. I verify this is complete horsecrap and a scam to force us to send expedited scores…

Beware, there is no way to print anything off the SAT website that proves your requested or they sent scores. Under the my history send scores it will list the colleges and the date of test and scores but it does not list ANY identifying information. All it might prove is that somebody sent a score to a college for that particular test… horrific system.

^^
Can’t you take a “screen shot” and use that as evidence?

Anyway…I’d just pay and resend at this point…time is money in this case. And, THEN fight the case to have the cost recredited…probably thru Visa.

Hi guys, I took the December SAT, which I want to send to NMSC for Finalist status. Since results come out on the 23rd, would I have enough time to do the usual score report method, or is it absolutely necessary that I use expedited shipping?

The letter states that the December sat date is the last date eligible to qualify. You do not need to expedite the scores. December 23 is the score date

Ok, thanks for the info! I just wanted to make sure the scores will reach NMSC in time, especially considering how it’s the holiday season and whatnot.

Im in the same situation as KCTaxguy. Not sure what to do.

Also, if we did send the scores, then we send again with expedited shipping, wouldn’t that just be 2 same scores from the same account (and presumably, they didn’t match the first score, so they wouldn’t match the second score?)

Mom2 you are 100% correct in what we should do …
Jwen brings up a good point… One know nothing at the College Board told me it still takes 3 weeks for NM to get it into their system even with expedited… but I did not beleive her…

KCTaxguy and Jwen, I got hit with this too and it comes as a shock since I clearly sent my SAT scores from the November administration on November 22 from CB! Have you tried calling the NMSC and did they say anything about this? I’m going to call tomorrow and try to argue with them, because I saved the verification page/receipt and everything.

NM called me yesterday and indicated they had reached out to the CB and CB agreed to send another report, rushed. She indicated it should only take a couple of days and she would call me again to confirm.
aymiusa > send them the verification page via fax and I bet they will get right on it. This must be some glitch since 3 now have reported it just here on CC.

Telephone message on home machine this morning that NM has received scores and not to worry.

@KCTaxguy, I’m so sorry since I don’t CC very often and I don’t have enough posts to PM back, but not to worry, I called them discreetly in the school bathroom and they told me that they had received everything and that I could simply disregard the letter  I will call them again just to make sure everything is 100%.

My apologies if this question has been answered before:
When registering my junior D for the March SAT, do I enter the 0085 NMSC code at the time of registration, so NMSC will get the scores? Or is the sending to NMSC done once the SAT scores are released? She has not taken the SAT before. If a junior takes the SAT multiple times, does the NMSC automatically accept the highest SAT score as the “qualifying” score for NM?
Thank you to any who can help.

HeliMom:

Enter the NMSC code when she registers for the test. This will take advantage of the four “free” scores available upon registration. There is no reason to wait and pay to send scores later. The NMSC will keep her score on file and consider it later when/if she is named an NMSF. This advice is based on multiple instances of personal experience.

I strongly believe the NMSC will consider the highest score of multiple sittings but, if this is an issue after the first test, I suggest you call the NMSC to confirm this is their policy. BTW, there is no evidence that stronger SAT scores, for example those well above the qualifying threshold, increase chances to become a NM Scholar. Indeed my limited set of anecdotal evidence suggests that once the qualifying standard has been attained SAT scores do not matter at all with respect to Scholar considerations. (Of course they could still influence admission prospects at individual schools.)

Thank you, Descartesz! I appreciate your reply. This is all so confusing at times.
Do you know what constitutes a qualifying SAT score? Is it dictated by what the student scores on his/her PSAT, or is it a single benchmark score for everyone?
