Quick question about Spanish classes

When I transferred to UCLA, my community college spanish classes transferred as Spanish 1, 2, and 3. However, I took those classes over a year ago (according to what I've heard, UCLA recommends retaking the highest level you've reached in a language if you haven't studied it in more than a year) and I don't feel confident enough to move to Spanish 4. Will I get credit for taking a class twice, especially if UCLA recommends it? Will I get a grade?

Best bet is to ask the counselor.
Since you transferred the classes though, I’ll take a stab that you probably aren’t going to get credit.

I wanted to take English Comp 3 even though I passed out through AP/SAT but they wouldn’t let me take it for credit. Good luck!

Yes if you take the course from CC already and send the CC transcript to UCLA, then you want to retake the course, you won’t get credit. The credit is on your DPR already.

Okay thanks! Even if I don’t get credit for the class, will the grade still count towards my GPA? If it literally doesn’t count for anything, I’ll just take it Pass/No Pass. Thanks!

You probably should check with a counselor to find out. On the web they say something about “unauthorized repeat” showing up on your transcript (see [Repeating Coursework](UCLA | Center for Academic Advising in the College) )

The advice on the Spanish page seems more aimed at HS students and not CC transfers, since they say

BTW haven’t you already satisfied the foreign language requirement with credit for 3 quarters worth?

No, the grade will not be computed into your GPA. Even if you take it as p/np it will still show up on your transcript as unauthorized repeat.

Just a heads up: If you are not able to take 3, I wouldn’t worry too much about taking Spanish 4. It’s quite easy - definitely easier than Spanish 3. You start out reviewing por/para, then preterit/imperfect past tense, then you eventually get to the present subjunctive in like the 3rd chapter. Plus, if you take Spanish 4 next quarter, sign up for the 10 am section. The TA teaching it is awesome.

for these classes is it recommended to buy a textbook, or not since the online access code gives us a etextbook for us to look at online?
