Okay, so I am writing my essays to Dartmouth and Cornell CALS for transfer. It seems that the Common App essays and the supplement essays are horrendously redundant. Naturally, we are expected to write a 'why transfer/why are you leaving/what has changed' essay on the CA. Then, on the Dartmouth, it asks for SPECIFIC reasons for applying for transfer. On Cornell, it asks why you want to transfer specifically to Cornell and what you want to major in on the supp.

I don't understand how I can possibly come up with enough reasons to write two different essays on the same topic. I can't write a general 'why transfer' essay on the CA that doesn't invoke the school and specific reasons - reasons for transfering ARE specific! What are you guys doing on this issue?

i could write 6 essays on why i want to transfer to UVA...
for the first essay, i would write half on why leaving, and the other half on why transfer to this school...but, focus on the overall university (setting, learning enviorment, peers, goals of the university, outside programs such as clubs, sports, study abroad, ect)...
then, for the second essay, talk more about the actual school you're applying to within Cornell/Dartmouth for half (curriculum, courses, electives availibilty, faculty, ect of your desired school, CALS) and then your major for the other half

obviously everything will be specific...but if you focus on different aspects, then it wont matter...the first should be broad across the university, the second should be broad across your specific school/major
