Quick question: ChemBE at Berkeley or Johns Hopkins?

Here are my options:

Chemical Engineering with Biotechnology concentration (UC Berkeley)
Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (Johns Hopkins)

From what I researched:

For Chem Engineering, Berkeley >>> Johns Hopkins
For Life Sciences, Johns Hopkins >>> Berkeley

For this situation, what's your opinion? Since my major is a mix of both haha.

you have like a day left to send in your deposit. go to jhu and then berkeley for grad school.

Ok fine, argh I just deposited. Such a hard choice but I guess I’m pretty lucky to have those 2 REALLY good (though REALLY different) schools to choose from, so hopefully there are no bad choices in this situation. After all college is what I make out of it right? :P

Blah, THANKS SO MUCH for your help though!

No prob…=). You’re gonna do great. College really is what you make of it, no matter where you go. If you want to have fun, it’ll come to you. Regardless, have a blast! Feel free to ask me any additional questions that might come up for you about Hopkins.

It depends on whether you intend to do chemE or bioMedE.
if chemE, go to Berkeley. top chemE program
if bioMedE, go to JHU. top program in the country.

I’d advise going to JHU because it’s the better school overall (which influences opportunities just as much as specific program strength), the department will be smaller and will give you more opportunities, and it will be more challenging and you will get better networking.

I’d advise Berkeley if they offered you a substantial scholarship or if you’re in-state and thus a large difference in cost. Also it might make sense to go to Berkeley if you really like Division 1 athletics or the big school atmosphere.
