quick question for parents!!

hi. i am an environmental"(?) student very concerned about the well being of the environment and i would like to show my passion in several ways but i dont know in what ways. i am planning on to publish a childrens' book on the environment.

can you recommend me on other ways i can show my passion (i know, this sounds very stupid, hehhehehe)

thank you!

Why don't you get involved in some aspect of the environment in your own community? Becoming active--eg. by volunteering time to clean up, or by becoming politically active in fighting for an environmental issue, or, if you're a science kid, researching something related to the environment-- would all show your passion.

thank you for your ideas donemom. but for ex. like u mentioned before becoming active in fighting for an environmental issue, do you mean like address such issues to the mayor or something? or in what other ways?

thank you

Well, for example, in our own community, a developer wanted to do a housing project on a mountain that included sensitive wetlands. The neighbors joined together to fight it, --lots of meetings with the planning board over several years. Eventually, the proposal was shot down. Another current issue has to do with whether they will close a nuclear plant that is nearby. Anyway, you could find out by reading your town's paper about issues like that, start going to meetings and becoming active.

Are you in college now? Are you over age 18?

thanks donemom. i'll see if there's any issues related to that in my town.

calmom.- no, im not 18. hehe

OK, I had an idea about a job you could get, but I know they prefer to hire high school grads or college students who are over 18.

oh ok . thanks for taking your time to investigate about them!

Find an area- a beach, a park and organize trash pick up, etc

We found in our city that cigarette butts were everywhere, we are working on ways ot get businesses to provide ash trays so those butts don't go into the river, streams and the ocean. it sound small but its not.

many cities have environmental departments, park departments, etc that are always looking for volunteers to plant, voice concerns.

Are you interested in animals, plants, air, water, all of the above?

Check out the Sierra Club

How involved do you want to get- physical work, cerebral...

those look like preety interesting ideas citygirlsmom.

i am actually striving for something new and interesting. something that I would like to start and that it will be very unique. something that can show passion, that i took time on it, uniqueness but that is not that hard to do (im not trying to be lazy, just that is sometimes hard to strive for something like this and being a high school student at the same time. for ex. asking my parents to take me to the beach for cleanup... kinda hard thing..) so.. well i found one way which is writing a childrens' book on the environment, but i dont think it's very unique, isn't it? i mean, im preety sure there are hundreds and hundreds of other students already published poems and short articles, etc.

im thinking about it these days. any thoughts? btw, thank you all for your recommendations

sorry citygirls mom i didnt actually answer you.

OK, i am being very vague, sorry. by environment, I mean about air mostly. global warmimg really impacts me. you know what im getting into? air, pollution, global warmimg things more than water and animals...

Its very difficult to publish a child's book. Perhaps you could try on-line site.
All the projects I know do involve animals and water. Every city has special projects. My former city had progams to help turtles nest, as well as support manatees, and help with beach preservation. Yes, kids did volunteer, and could get letters of recommendation. Before starting something "new", look for an existing group and gain experience. You can always branch out, or start a similar group in another city.

hard to publish.,? hm well, ill try my best. maybe i could start my own group for environmental awareness after some experiecne participating in other groups?
