I just had a quick question about gpas. i calculated mine at home and i'm pretty sure i did it right. a few days later, i got my transcript from the office and the weighted gpas differ by A LOT.
when i calculated my gpa, i did it by APs A- 5 pts, B- 4 pts. am i doing it wrong? or is my school calculating it on a different point system.
thanks!

Some schools use different systems, so you should ask your school.

Also in our school, the gpa isn't modified for year long courses until the end of the year even though there are semester grades. They only calculate in the course results into the GPA when it's "final". Its possible that's why you have a discrepancy too.

if your school publishes a course selection guide like my school, information about calculating a weighted gpa should be in there

and I agree with sharonohio about year long courses not being calculated in until yea end

You should ask your school about their calculation methods then use that same formula to "redo" it.

Don't assume the one given to you by the school is correct. For example, this past semester, our school messed up the GPA's for everybody by accident so everyone went back and convinced them to recalculate it.

for our school, honors classes' A's = 4.5. if you get 97+ in an honors class, THEN it counts as 5.0. B's in honors classes are 3.5

its so messed up.

thanks for your help you guys. yeah, the only reason i can't really ask is because my counselor is really incompetent. she goes on trips during the year, when students need help the most. recently, she went on a 3 week trip to somewhere in South America. thanks again though! i'll definitely check it out.
