I remember the guy saying that a campus visit will help out and they recorded it, is this true? If so how much will it help? Can I write my why emory essay based on my campus visit and the things I saw there (the gym, dead of admissions) that sealed the deal for me?

haha, now i'm reading your posts, okay, i called Emory and they do take that into account. But think about his, how many applicants would write this kinda topic?

haha it will by no means seal the deal. tons of applicants visit campus and everyone writes a 'why emory' essay. admissions will base the reading of your application on whether you are qualified by their standards. While visiting will help (they take interest into account), it will not guarantee you a spot in the class of '11 if you are not qualified academically, etc.

of course it wouldn't guarantee a spot, but I was hoping it would help just a little - that plane ticket from NY was pretty pricey.

i don't think a visit to emory will determine whether or not you get in; however, when i visited emory, they do have you register for a tour and information session, and a copy of that does does go into your application file, and if you opt to attend classes, those you select from the course registrar do go into your application file as well. I'm from Philadelphia so a visit for me was much more difficult than someone from say Goergia, With that said, there are other ways to show interst. If you reqpest a letter from a department memeber online, or the emory dvd, or contact a sports coach, they also place those requests into your application file and take them into account. They just want to see that a student has made an effort to learn about emory. They want to accept people that are most importantly qualified, but also want to go there. Good Luck, did you apply ed II or regular?

I don't think anyone who's posted understood what you were asking, so I will go ahead and say that you should definitely write about the things that influenced your decision to attend Emory on your visit there. I think that you will benefit from stating specifics because that will demonstrate your genuine interest and that you were actually paying attention to what you saw when you were there.

Good luck. :)
