What exactly is the minimum for the mile run for the CFA? On usna.edu--admissions--CFA it gives a minimum time for a 1.5 mile run as 10:30. Is this just the minimum for the mile and it's a typo (I highly doubt)? Do I have my facts wrong and it's really a 1.5 mile run for the CFA?

Thanks for any response

The Naval Academy doesn't publish the minimums. USNA1985 posted the average scores in a previous thread.

For the old PAE (Physical Aptitude Exam) the minimum and average scores were:

Pull-ups Men: 2 min.; 9.7 average

Flexed Arm Hang Women: 12 min.; 27.3 average (seconds)

Basketball Throw Men: 44' min; 68.4' average

Basketball Throw Women: 24' min.; 39.5' average

Running 1.5 miles in 10:30 is only a 7 minute mile pace. I don't think thats unreasonable for anyone in shape.

And no, you do a 1 mile run for the CFA (the 1.5 mile run is the PRT).

^^^^^
Running the 1.5 mile in 10:30 will result in a "D" grade which is barely passing.

I said I didn't think it was unreasonable. I didn't say it was any good.

dritchy. If your great at curlups and pushups...you can get by with the 10:30 but not 10:31. Can't fail any section. The rest of the grades are averaged for your grade on the PRT. I have one that struggles with the curl ups but then more than makes up for it on the 1.5 mile run. In the end you just need to pass the PRT, how you do it doesn't matter.

There is a calculator at:
http://www.usna.edu/PEScheds/PRT/prtcalculator.htm

and a chart at:
http://www.usna.org/handbook/prtstandards.html
That chart also includes a 500yd swim

I know most of you are aware that the CFA and the PRT are completely different tests, but for those of you who don't, they are completely different tests.

The CGO has provided a little guidance to the BGO's about the CFA.

BGIS currently reflects the date that a student completes his CFA. (This is viewable in the Student Detail page.) Upon further review by CGO, BGIS will not indicate if a candidate has passed/failed his CFA, however, the following guidance is provided: AVERAGE Scores: Males: 1 mile run- 7:08, 63 crunches, 48 pushups Females: 1 mile run 8:25, 60 crunches, 25 pushups.

Please feel free to communicate this information to your candidates. If candidates have taken the CFA, they may re-take the CFA with no penalty. Please remind your candidates they will need to contact their Admissions Officer at USNA if they wish to do so.

Additional guidance from the Director of Admissions: Males must complete the 1 mile run in under 9 minutes, and the females must complete the 1 mile run in under 10 minutes, or they will not be viewed as competitive candidates.

In sum, to answer the original question the CFA distance is a mile, and you had best meet or exceed the time immediately above when running it.
