I've taken spanish for 4 years now i don't want to take it again. Are we allowed to take a completely new language or do we have to follow the language we learned in high school? Thanks

you can take any language you want : )

i heard if you get a 700 or higher on SAT II language test, you will pass out of all 4 quarters. But I’m not Revelle and I’m not 100% sure.

what’s the deal with the language placement test then? o.O

Theory behind the language placement test: some people would just start with the last quarter of language as soon as they got to college and possibly get a low grade in it just to get it out of the way, if that makes sense. The language placement test is so they can determine you are actually proficient in a language.

So in your case, if you are planning on taking Spanish, you need to take the placement test and figure it out from there. Otherwise, you can start at Level 1 of a different language - be warned, however, that UCSD language classes are tedious and difficult, so you’re going to be taking a lot more of them if you start from square one.

Are you taking the AP test? It was possible to fulfill the language requirement depending on the score; at least that was true a coupla years ago.
