Quick question on transfer GPA...

So I'm planning on applying to a some CSU's and UC's in the Fall. My question is: when they evaluate your GPA, are they looking at what your GPA was at the time of your application or are they looking at what your GPA is after the Fall semester grades are in? Anyone know?

I’m not sure about each of your schools, but typically transfer applications aren’t even available until the fall. The committee won’t even start reading it until after the freshman class is assembled, which takes place in the late winter/spring, so they will certainly see your grades and perhaps a midterm report from the spring semester.

If they have rolling admissions or some other timetable, I suppose it’s possible they won’t see those grades, but I would assume they’ll see everything for your sake.

Fall grades are the most important! They send out a supplement app in Jan/Feb for you to report your Fall Grades and then they start making admissions decisions. If you are tagging to a UC, however, your GPA needs to meet their requirement prior to Fall 2011 because the TAG app is due in September.

I’m asking because I’m really hoping that Fall grades ARE what they base their decision on. I’m taking quite a lot of units in this upcoming Fall semester, and afterward I expect to have a much better GPA than I have at the time I fill out the application in October/November (for Fall 2012). You mentioned a midterm report from Spring, do they really factor that in? Because that would help me even more.

LAlady, do all colleges use that supplemental application and if so what does it look like? Do they just ask you for your fall grades or is there more to it?

quick answer- don’t know.

For UC’s and I’m assuming CSU’s, you just report your Fall grades and your Spring classes as far as I know. Then they start reviewing apps.

Thanks for the information!
