Quick question on URMs/Race

I'm mostly Chinese but a large portion of my mother's family comes from Indonesia and the islands around there. I know it's about self-identification, but I applied to two schools already, and I only have "Asian" checked off because I grouped Indonesia and its islands as "Asian" of which I didn't specify but it was blatantly obvious thru my app.

But since I'm pretty much blind, I just now noticed that there's a Pacific Islander box! I can check that off, right? If I can, would it be so crazy to "update" your race for those colleges that I applied to?

If not, which one(s) do I fit under? These are common app's selections:

Asian (including Indian subcontinent and Philippines)
Which best describes your background?
China
India
Japan
Korea
Pakistan
Philippines
Vietnam
Other East Asia

If "Other", please specify
Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander (Original Peoples)
Which best describes your background?
Guam
Hawaii
Samoa
Other Pacific Islands (excluding Philippines)

Why not check both?

Neither as an Indonesian nor an Asian do you have URM status. You are actually part of the Over Represented/Neutral classification as those races. I would have checked “Decline to State”.

People from the Philippines and people from Indonesia are Asian by the usual federal rules.
