Quick question, please answer

i just took my first sat
and i don't know much about sending score reports
should i indicate which schools to send it to right now, as a junior?
i want to wait to see what i get on this sat tho...

if i send score reports after my subject tests are taken (probably in may or june) do colleges see the reasoning tests taken in the past as well or just the subj. tests?

No, don’t send them now. You can send scores at any time. The free score reports don’t allow you to pick by the test; they allow you to pick by the test date. The paid score reports (which you can buy at any time) allow you to pick by the test.

The only reason you would send “early” and use the free score reports is to save money. Since you are probably unsure about which colleges you want to apply to next year, and may retake to get a better score anyway, there is no reason for you to send now.

I believe if you have used a fee waiver before, they give you 4 free “flexible” (which means you can pick which tests to send – they function just like the ones you pay for) score reports.

EXAMPLE:

January 2010: SAT I
500/600/550
May 2010: SAT IIs
Test 1: 800
Test 2: 750
Test 3: 550
December 2010: SAT I/u
700/700/700

You may use the free score reports that are given to you for the December SAT registration before you even receive your scores because:

(1) you probably improved (it’s been 8 months since your first SAT I),
(2) you won’t retake the test for a better score unless a college allows the January SAT
(3) you don’t want to wait until the last minute to send scores to college.

You would pay for your score reports for everything else because you want to choose to send only the 800 and 750 from the May 2010 test date.

You don’t send the first SAT at all; neither the free score reports nor the paid score reports require you to send all your scores. Only some (mostly top) colleges do. The free ones allow you to pick by the test date (January, May, or December?). The paid ones allow you to pick by the test (first SAT, first SAT II, second SAT II, third SAT II, or second SAT?).

thanks so much! very helpful

so how about if I want to use the free score report thing after I take a subject test in may–would this free score report also send this january sat reasoning score along with the may subj. test score (as in, all the tests taken up to that test date, whether reasoning or subject)?

No, you don’t have to send the ones you have taken up to the test date. You can pick by each individual test date, meaning if you took tests in January and May, you have the options to send:

(1) ONLY all the tests in May
(2) ONLY all the tests in January
(3) ALL the tests in May and ALL the tests in January.

When you begin the process of sending scores, you will be given options. There is a 0.00001% chance I may be wrong (if they changed the policy since my sending about 2 months ago), so you should go on the website right now and see how it works so you can become familiar with it. They give you a list (either of test dates or of individual tests) and you can check which ones you want. Simply cancel afterward; you don’t lose anything.
