Hey guys, I'm going to be applying for the Presidential scholarship program which has a deadline of Nov. 1st. I know the notification of semifinalist status is mid December but I just wanted to confirm that they can still accept me to Georgia Tech and reject me from the program when they release decisions. I would to make sure that I cant be rejected from both the program and the university as I want to at least receive some consideration for the university itself even if its without the program.

Thanks and appreciate all the help!

I guess this is a natural concern. I think you have to have really low stats to get rejected so early (like 1500 on all three parts with a 2.5 GPA), before they have even seen the regular applicants (Jan. 15). And if you think that you are in the running for President’s Scholarship (semifinalists are roughly the top 10% of the early applicants), should that give you some comfort that you are likely to be admitted?

Admissions and PSP are two separate things. When you apply early, you are applying for admission. You will be accepted / rejected / deferred to regular admission. It is possible to be rejected early, but usually you need to be a poor candidate that had no shot at regular admission to be rejected early (basically, it’s a nudge that you need to apply to other schools). Tech seems to be very conservative with deferring/rejecting early.

Once you’re accepted to GT, your application will be screened to determine if you are a PSP semi-finalist and you will be notified of that (or not notified if not selected) later.
