I want to apply early decision to columbia university, but my gpa is a bit below a 4.0. I was wondering if I apply regular decision to Columbia University and work real hard my first semester of senior year, will those grades be included in the refiguring of my GPA?

If I am not mistaken, if you apply RD to columbia you will have to send in a mid-year report that will include your new rank and/or GPA depending on the type of system your schools runs on ( semesters, trimesters, quarters). Thus those grades wil be included in refiguring your GPA. On the other hand, applying ED to Columbia requires that you send in your first quarter grades or something simillar.

You may as well apply ED –*it'll help your chances a bit, quite possibly enough to make up for the "bit below 4.0." Not to mention, if grades and test scores were the only aspect of your application that mattered, then the top schools would be able to admit only 2400s who were vals from top tier schools.
