I sent in my postcard and everything and I just turned in everything including my scores, supplement, commonapp, etc. But should I pay for the commonapp online? Will they refund my credit card later or should I just ignore the payment part of the commonapp? Thanks in advance. =)

Send an e-mail to the admission office to confirm this, but if you have asked for a fee waiver, do NOT pay the application fee via the Common Application on-line form. I can’t even begin to imagine the nightmare process for obtaining a refund – if it’s even possible. Simply check the box that says “Other Fee Waiver” (or something to that effect). The Common Application will mark your payment to Swarthmore as “Complete” with the green triangle or square thingy and, as far as the Common App is concerned, that’s all finished.

You may be concerned that you are stuck with that choice for all eternity – just as if you submit an essay with a typo and want to change it. The good news is that you can change this response. So, mark the “Other Fee Waiver” box and leave it be unless and until you’re told otherwise. If, later on, you discover that you need to submit the payment (your fee waiver request was denied or you found out some other information that leads you to believe that you’re obligated to pay the fee), you can go back to the Common App and uncheck the “Other Fee Waiver” and process your payment. (I am assuming that the Common App doesn’t totally lock-down all further activity after the application deadline has passed, partly because colleges are extending deadlines and, after all, in this case it would prevent you from sending them money.)

Good luck!
