Quick question regarding AP tests and credits at UCLA...

Hi, I'm really interested in majoring in Communication Studies at UCLA. I looked up the course pre-reqs, and I found out Psych 10 is one of them. The UCLA website catalog says that a 4 or 5 on the AP Psychology test is equivalent to Psych 10.

So here comes my confusion. The Communication Studies website says that all pre-reqs must be taken for a letter grade. So will my AP score clear the Psych 10 class?

Can anyone answer my question? Thanks in advance.

No, I think you'll have to re-take Psych 10 either at UCLA or at a community college to fulfill the major requirement. The AP WILL give you elective credit though. I know- it sucks!

But in that case, why would UCLA state that a 4 or 5 in AP Psychology is equivalent to Psych 10?

I don't think classes taken at a comm. college counts toward general ed requirements...

Argh... anyone know for sure? About my Psych 10 situation and whether or not CC classes count as GE?

Bump.... help.. does anyone know? :(

I am positive that CC classes count as GE. Why else would you take GE classes in high school or in the summer? And why else would anyone go to CC to transfer if they can't fulfill GE classes? That's the point of CC- to fulfill the first two years of an undergrad degree.

Anyways, in regard to your question about AP test- If your major does not require Psych 10, then yes, you would get credit for that specific class as a general ed. However, since your major does require Psych 10, you would only get ELECTIVE credit- meaning you'd need a letter grade from either UCLA or another college. That credit goes towards graduattion. But, you should check to see if UCLA requires you to take major requirements on campus as opposed to a community college. I'm sure that GE from a CC will count, but not 100% sure on whether or not major requirements count from a CC.

Hope that helps!
