Quick Question Regarding Orientation

So I called the Orientation desk and they said that if I do get into 101 that the AP test scores won't be available. And on their website it says, "Exams. Since the results of the spring AP or IB exams are not generally available prior to July 15 and since UCLA will not receive your scores earlier than you do yourself, you may wish to consider attending an Orientation session after this date. Your Orientation Counselor will go over how your AP and/or IB work will be applied at UCLA during your Orientation session"

I thought everyone said that by last year, that UCLA received it on time... And now it's July 15? Is that what they said last time?

Also, even if AP scores do not arrive in time, do I really need them? [For placement exams] I took AP Calc AB my junior year (already know my score), and for foreign language I didn't take any AP. Also for the Anlaytical Writing test or whatever, I know I passed the test. Any suggestions?

is that what UCLA orientation people said last time**

I thought people said that scores arrive at the colleges before they arrive at our homes. But I am not positive.

Kind of a side question: I thought we had to take the math placement test even if we passed AP Calc AB test. I passed it my junior year too, but people have been telling me i need to take math placement regardless... Can anyone confirm/deny this?

if you took AB and got a 3 or a 4, i think that's when you need the test to pass out of 31A. if you got a 5, you pass out of 31A without the test.

Actually, if you got a 3 or 4 in AB, you don't get to pass out of 31A and you have to take the math placement test.

If you got a 5 on AB or a 4 on BC, you pass out of 31A.
If you got a 5 on BC, you pass out of 31B.

thats what they say every year. guess what happens every year?

uh, mrspam? that's exactly what i said ;)

haha.. so... what should I just go with 101?

Uh, no!

You said if you get a 3 or 4, you take the test to pass out of 31A.

yes, you take the test to pass out if you do well enough!

can we stop nitpicking here!

You can request your AP scores by phone starting July 1st. It costs $8 per call, but you can get all of your scores in one call. That's why I signed up for 101.

I won't stop nitpicking!

If you do well enough, you're still placed into 31A, at least that's what the departmental website says.

I see. Thanks for the advice. Haha.

lol.. yeah.. you wouldn't want to do that.

wait, so i got a 5 on AB subscore and 5 on BC soo what happens if i take it?

It's a waste of time. Just go ahead and take the third class in the track. For the 3 series, that would be 3C. Which is like, statistics, so it has little to do with multivariable calc (3B). I'm not sure if this translates to the 30 series, though.

For 30 series, you'd pass into 32A, which is multivariable calc.
