Quick Question(s)

Hi, I'm getting a lot of packets and e-mails from WashU, even though I don't think I even requested them all! The packets must have some mind-altering effect on me, because before I had absolutely no desire at all to apply, and now I'm pretty interested. Would you call WashU a school full of really intellectual students, or are the students there more mainstream? For instance, would you hear a lot of long dinner conversations about Marx? Or do they more talk about what they're going to do during the weekend?

I just kind of want to get a feel for what the student body is like. Also, would you call the student body warm and fuzzzy and nice, or more on the independent, self-driven, maybe even aggressive side? Or is it more in the middle?

WashU sounds like a great place, and even though it's not my top choice school, I still want to know what the people there are like if I decide to apply.

I have a friend who talks about Marx even when he's out drinking on the weekends. Sure, there are people who are preoccupied with their social lives (and plenty who are also pretty preoccupied with academics), but I've found that most people find a happy medium between the two extremes.

"Warm" and "nice" are words that describe the student body pretty well. Then again, most of my friends are pretty independent, and nearly everyone is driven and self-motivated; keep in mind that most people who are admitted HAVE to be hard workers. I'd say we're academically focused, and we have high standards for ourselves, but there aren't many people who are aggressive or cutthroat.
