Quick question w/ SCEA

Apps are due by Nov 1. If I'm applying by snail mail does that mean I have to put everything into the mail by Nov 1 or do they have to have everything by Nov 1?

I think the very latest is that it has to be "postmarked by Nov. 1" but I personally would not wait till the very last second. Try and get it done a week or a few days before (at the latest) Nov. 1st. Better safe than sorry!

So bring everything to fedex on around 20th oct? Thanks..

jhl: it says postmarked by Nov 1 (meaning US Postal service). That doesn't translate into overnighting it on Oct 20.

The admissions office staff isn't there to boot an application into the "reject" pile because a staple was out of place, the rec wasn't addressed to "Yale Admissions office", the package arrives postmarked Nov 2, or the materials weren't printed on 50# cotton blend resume stock paper.

They are very cognizant that students are generally trying the best they can and are subjecting themselves to a pretty intense and rigorous process. They work hard for the University and are NICE.

You're worrying yourself over nothing.

No.. Because i'm an international.. So i was thinking wouldn't it be safer to bring my materials to fedex on the 20th?.. The postmarked deadline is nov1st but some unis have a receipt deadline too..? For eg u illinois needs to receive the materials by certain date eventho the postmarked deadline is on a certain date.. So as an international i tot sending it on the 20th would be safer.. Isn't it?

What if I submit the online application by the deadline, but my teacher recs and school forms have the postmark, let's say, Nov 3rd? Am I busted?

I expect that they'd accept it as long as it's postmarked, but considering how complicated and slow international correspondence can be, i think you would be wise to send your application in a week or so early. Also keep in contact with your regional admissions officer (there are officers specifically for different parts of the world outside of the US) to let them know that you applied on time and they'll be understanding if it's slow in the mail.

Postmark by nov1st = bring to fedex by nov1st?
