Just got accepted into the Computer Criminology program! Very Excited! How do I go about getting a priority number? Thanks!

Register immediately for housing.

Parent when I went to register for housing for Summer A I got this

University Housing will be accepting new contracts for the Summer 2012 Session A term beginning 03/12/2012… Please return at that time to complete your Housing contract.

:/ Does this mean I can’t get a priority number til the 12th?

But it seems I can register for housing for Fall, should I just do that for now?

Yes, you have to register for fall housing ASAP. Don’t worry about summer, there’s no problem getting a good hall for summer.

And don’t worry if your priority number is high, there are many lower numbers that won’t be attending FSU, so yours is not as bad as it seems.

You’re a transfer student right?

Your focus at this point should be Fall/Spring housing. You need to register ASAP- last I heard, priority numbers were upwards of 6000, which means you likely aren’t going to get a good dorm.

Pasbal you’re like an inside reported my friend, exactly on-point with your information… I ended up getting an upper 6000 priority number

I listed 4 halls, but my chances of getting into any of those is probably slim right?

Also - what do I do for summer housing?

Summer housing won’t open up until March 12, so it’ll have to wait.

With your priority number, you’re probably going to get into Kellum or Smith. You might also want to look into Rogers Hall, which is a separate application than the regular housing. At least then you will be in an apartment style location and not a typical dorm.

If you’re a freshman going for summer then it is summer C and the application is open already

Pasbal can you link me to that application?

I may be incorrect, but I think that Rogers Hall is something you have to contact Housing to get the application for. You might be able to apply for it on the Housing website though. I’ve talked with the housing office multiple times about some stuff for next year, and even they apparently aren’t 100% sure about some of the stuff in Rogers actually, which makes it all frustrating.

Here’s the homepage for Rogers Hall.

You might find some really helpful information on the Transfer student webpage though:

And here’s the link to apply for Housing (I don’t know if it’s how you apply for Rogers though. Like I said, even Housing isn’t 100% on this stuff for some reason):

as21608, They are a new transfer student to FSU. Summer housing would be for Summer A, B, and/or C.

Pasbal, I applied for graduate housing (for Rogers Hall) and even paid the $75 dollars however I am not a grad student I am just a 21 year old transfer student. I did this because I don’t want to end up in a freshmen hall and I’m hoping when I call Monday and I explain my situation they will understand. My priority number for this was in the 200’s.

Also - seeing that I applied for Fall term for housing and got such a high priority number, should I call and cancel that application Monday? Or just not paying within the 10 days will automatically remove me from that list and just try to get into Rogers for Summer & Fall.

Hey thanks again for your help Pasbal, super helpful!

^I applied for regular dorm housing and only realized recently they have non-traditional student housing.
I called and they told me I should email housing and cancel the dorm application and had to confirm what year I graduated HS and all that so they can approve me and allow me to apply for Rogers Hall.
I’m 25 and do not want to be roomed w/ freshmen either.

I would call them and they are very helpful in suggesting exactly what you should do.

Helpful repsonse paper, thanks!

Rogers isn’t open during the Summer. It and a few other dorm buildings are open only during Fall and Spring semesters. There’s still plenty of housing available for Summer, though, so don’t worry.

If you do not pay your Fall/Spring housing deposit, after the deadline it SHOULD cancel your application. However, I wouldn’t count on this 100% (just because some things can fall through), and I would still call the Housing office. Plus, they can answer any other questions you have. Normally.

However, with it being Spring Break on campus and much of the campus being shut down, I’m not sure if the Housing office is open next week. It doesn’t hurt to call anyway, but don’t be shocked if they are closed.

Pasbal any recommendations for a summer dorm for a junior transfer?

I think transfers have to pick Ragans Dorm.

"Summer Options for Students Above the Freshman Level

Ragans Hall offers 3/4 bedroom & 2 bath apartment living for 555 students above the freshmen level. All apartments are equipped with kitchen/dining areas, shared study/living rooms and bathrooms. Students (except FTIC) contracting for summer sessions A, B & C must preference Ragans Hall."

Ragans and Traditions Halls are the only ones open for the entire summer for anyone that isn’t FTIC (First time in college). You’ll likely get into Ragans, although I was told during the Open House for Traditions Hall (opening this summer), that they weren’t expecting to have Traditions full this summer, so you MAY luck out there.

Traditions Hall - This facility is for returning residence hall students only.

Doesn’t that mean a transfer student wouldn’t be able to stay in this hall?

Also - I got accepted as a transfer student for Summer, does this mean Summer A? Summer A/B? Summer C? How will I go about applying to Ragans for the entire summer? Do I have to wait for Summer A housing to open to do that?

For summer it doesn’t matter if you’re a new student or not.

You were probably accepted for Summer A.
Summer A is from 14 May-10 Aug, and you pay one amount for Summer A.
But if you were accepted for Summer B and/or C you pay a different amount.
Summer A cost is about $2600 for Ragans and about $2800 for Traditions.

I think pasbal mentioned Summer housing will be available on the 12th of March, so you have to wait a week before you can apply for Summer housing, but you will be in either Ragans or Traditions.
