Quick Question

Hey everybody,

Quick question. I have an ACT score of 30 with a GPA of around 3.9. How does this exactly look?I.e what are my chance? I am in the top quartile and I have recievd AP Scholar with distinction among others, and I do believe I have upwards of 200 volunteer hours or so. I will have taken around 9 APs after graduation and I have received all 4s except for Chem which I got a 3.

Can anyone tell me how my application will be looked at? And also my essay was pretty good, just a little bit cheesy.

Thanks

BC is a reach with your numbers. Your course rigor is excellent (9 APs), but approx. 90% of BC’s matriculants are in the top decile of their HS class. Many accepted students have 5’s on AP tests. BS’s interquartile ACT is a 29-32 so you are right about median for that one item.

But that is only numbers. Recs, ECs and essays also play a part.

Good luck.

Thank you, I hate my class rank but I gotta love with it. Bump anyone else please.

Dear vampyfreak : Tell us more about your profile - details on your volunteerism and leadership will help.

Why do you believe that your essay was inferior? As a general rule-of-thumb, successful Boston College applicants would not typically classify their essays as “cheesy”.

Anything to share regarding sports, clubs, arts/drama, music, honor societies, or community engagements?

No I didn’t mean cheesy as something bad but I revised it now it looks decent. I am in NHS, newspaper editor, history club, volunteered at AYC for like 100 or more hours, hospital 40 hours and went to a research program at RPCI a local hospital. I play varsity tennis and I sing Carnatic music. I am also in history club, masterminds, mathclub and science olympaid.

Thanks…

I’d say a low chance, but a chance nonetheless.

I mainly say that because your ACT is a bit low(not by too much though) and because a majority of the people who are accepted are top 10%. 82% of the enrolling class was top 10% so you’d have to part of the small minority of students who weren’t(~18%).

On top of that, the people in the 18% probably had some sort of hook or something.
People in the 18% could be athletes, minorities(it’s a generalization, but a fair one at that), Legacies(idk how much they weight this), people who had really good test scores to compensate, and people with incredible EC’s.

Well my rank was in the top 18% and that was only because people took more APs than I had…

Guys please bumpppppp…and also one more question what sort of recommendations should I send to bc, two teachers or 1 teacher and a volunteer coordinator person?

Vampy, with respect to the incessant bumping here, a couple of points:

The deadline is today. I would think it a bit much to be trying to decide who your recommenders should be. From Admissions’ website, “In other words, January 1st is the last possible date we will accept your credentials. We strongly recommend that students submit their completed applications before January 1st.”

I think bluebayou, scottj and JuanitaRebel addressed your questions very well already. It’s hard to add much to it.

Worry about what you can control - submit the best application you can and wait for the decision. Stewing over essays already submitted and such will do you no good anyway

No I already submitted my application, I was just curious of what other people did. Thank you for.all the help
