I like to have a timer when I take the test, so i bought a watch that can do this. However, whenever I press the button to start/stop/reset the timer it make a small beep noise. The beep is just one beep and barely audible; but i'm concerned that the proctor might say something about the noise. Do you think it is a big deal or not?

(Also I can't figure out how to mute the watches sound, so that really isn't an option)

Alarm watch is not allowed. You have to disarm any beeping. My D wore a digital watch on her first SAT. For no reason it started beeping in the beginning of last section. She got a warning from the proctor that the score may be voided. At the end they did not, but that has definitely ruined her test.

I took my brother’s watch to my sat because I don’t own one and I forgot that he has an alarm that goes off until the test started. I didn’t know when it was going to go off and it did and the proctor looked at me and looked away. If it is barely audible it won’t be a problem. Hide it behind your back when you turn it on and sit in the back of the room. That should be enough to cover it. It worked for me the second time it went off.

Yes, it’s a big deal. Taking a “beeping” alarm watch to the test is against the rules…and inconsiderate to the other test-takers.

Take a digital watch that has all audible beeps/alarms disabled. Write down the start and end times at the top of the page at the beginning of each section. If you practice this prior to test, doing simple math to calculate the remaining time will be easy.

Why bother risking it?
Do what Bartleby007 suggested and just write down the start and end times.

It’s really not a big deal if it only beeps once or twice every section and if it is barely audible to you. If it’s barely audible to you the person next to you probably won’t hear it. Also, the place where I took my sat had on clock in the back of the room. If he has to sit in the room and he has to constantly look at the back of the room it may look like he’s cheating. That’s why I was grateful for having a watch.
