Quick Question?

Hey,
So I recently got accepted into UCD under the Neurobiology major. However, I saw that I did not get the email for University Honors Program. I am doing pre-med, so I am worried if I would be favored less when applying to med school. I am going to attend UCD, but how can I ask to be placed in the Honors Program or join? I really want to be a part of it because I think It would look better on the med-school application. Any input or responses would be helpful.

Thanks

I have a dd at UCD in the NPB major, and, my son was just accepted to the Honors program at UCDavis. You don’t seem to understand that they have a limited number of spots and will only select a limited number of students for the Honors program. Davis picks the students it wants in its Honors program, you don’t get to pick and choose to be in the Honors program. My son is a National Merit winner and was selected, we assumed, for the Honors program based on his SAT scores. He was also admitted to Caltech. FWIW: a large number of students are in the NPB (Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavioral Sciences) major and a majority of those students are trying to get into med school, so you are not unique. If the university did not select you for the Honors program, you did not meet their criteria for their program.

I don’t think it’ll affect you negatively. There’s a bunch of people that get accepted into med school year every year that don’t participate in their university’s honors program, so as long as you get good grades and do lots of extracurriculars, I think you’ll be fine. :)

That being said, though, UCD is supposed to be sending out more invitations after the SIR deadline. At least, according to the website. The only other way to join the honors program, from my understanding, is to enter during the fall quarter of your freshman year. “Freshmen with a 3.50 GPA or above for the fall quarter will be invited to apply.” The site doesn’t have that a lot information on that, so if you’re planning to attend Decision Day this Saturday, maybe ask about the honors program while you’re there.
