quick question

If you get a merit scholarship, is that amount added on to the grant that Rice gives you?

In other words, say the tuition is 40,000, and you get a 10,000 scholarship and can pay 20,000. Does that mean Rice will give you a total of 20,000 (based on need)+10,000 (based on merit)=30,000?

If Rice does not do that, what then is the point of a merit scholarship?

good question - i think you should call them on monday

does anyone else know the answer?

It depends what kind of scholarships you got from Rice.

If you got Trustee and/or Century or other scholarships, the outside scholarships would be additive.

If you got need based aid, the ourside scholarships would go first towards your self help portion (student contribution, work study, loans).

I don't know how it works if you get both the merit and need based aid from Rice. Just call the fin-aid office on Monday.

did u get the scholarships with ur aid letter? or with the admission package???
