Quick Question...

I've been casually flipping through the Cornell Course Registry, and was wondering if any Cornellians could tell me how many courses per semester the typical Cornell (or even typical college student) takes. Is there a maximum? 4/ 5? 6?

Many thanks,
-Dan

Freshmen must petition to go over 18 credits, I think. Most courses are 3 or 4 credits, so you go figure.

Typically 4 or 5. 4 for easier majors, 5 for harder majors (most engineers will take 5 after their freshmen year).

There is a minimum and maximum number of credits which depends on your college, year, and GPA, but the range is typically 12-22 or so. You can petition to take more or less credits, and I know people who had up to 25 in a semester (which is insane).

I think you have to petition to go over 21 credits, not 18 (I had a 19 my second semester without needing ot petition)

Most people I know took 4 classes first semester and some added an aditional class for the second semester.

6 would be a lot...but I know people that have done it.

I'm not talking about like gym class included, if you really wanted to I think it would be ok to take 5 classes and a gym class....but not first semester.

1st semester freshman have to petition to go over 18 i think.

most students take 4 or 5 major classes a semester

I took 4 each semester of my freshman year. I think I'm going to try 5 next semester and drop one if it's too much work.
