Quick Question

I have heard that you need to have taken to Precalc to get into this place. It seems like a weird requirement, just wondering if it was true. Also, i am on track to take four years of math in high school but opted to take linear Algebra instead of Precalc. Does this mean i will not be able to get in here?

I'm pretty sure that you don't HAVE to take precalc, as long as you have four years. It's just that at most schools, precalc IS the fourth year of math.

I didn't take precalc and I got in. I took an alternative to it (so I had four years) that was REALLY basic, easy math.

I forgot about how many years of math BU requires (either 3 or 4)...but as long as you have four I'm sure your fine. As long as for the most part they were challenging courses.

I took Pre-Calc actually junior year and found it to be pretty worthless...but that's just my piece of crap school

I remember there was a CC poster either last year or the year before who was not admitted despite great qualifications. When he called admissions, they said he hadn't taken pre-calc. I don't know if he had three years of math that didn't include pre-calc, or two years of math.

Before this year, the BU admissions office had precal listed as a REQUIREMENT, now it is simply listed as a recommendation. Taken from the admissions website:

"Three to four years of mathematics (precalculus/calculus recommended)"

Last year we had someone admitted who had not taken precal but they actually did physically CALL the school to see why he had not and my counselor had to justify his choice of Functions for about half an hour. I'm a bit peeved that its no longer required since that is THE ONLY reason I took the course this year instead of another math. Oh well.

AH this post makes me REALLY nervous because im not a math person and dropped precalc at the beggining of this year. I decdided i would rather take more english classes because im more interested in that. taking that precalc class would have made my senior year unbearable. i jsut need to hope that my new SATs will be good enough.

PS BU is my first choice. im so nervous. im afriad my choicesthis year will hinder me getting in.
