Right now, I’m a junior in what is the equivalent of trigonometry. Since I live in NYC, we’re required to take a test of proficiency in this subject come January. Now, after I take the test, I can do one of these 3 things for the 2nd semester:

Stop taking math for the rest of HS since I’ve received all my math credits

Take Calculus I during school and take Pre-Calculus after school (I was interested in this but I don’t know how I would fare)

Take pre-calculus the first semester of my senior year.

Could taking pre-calc/calc at the same time work? Or would it be too hard?

Thanks.

...................

i didn't learn anything in precalc. it was just a review of trig and algrebra 2. i recommend taking calc during school and precalc after school. whatever you do, don't stop taking math after this semester! it looks horrible if you only have 5 semesters of math.

so i wouldn't be faced with much trouble going straight into calc then?

any other opinions?

2 would work since you already have the foundations (Algebra I-II, Geometry, Trigonometry) for Calculus. PC would just be a review with some statistics methods.

My calculus teacher did a review the first half of the first semester starting with algebra and working all the way up to actual calculus. I made a 5 on the A.P. exam too. PreCal sucked; I didn't learn anything. But that was mostly because my teacher left everyday for an hour to go smoke. So you'd probably be ok doing both or without PreCal.

If you have a solid foundation in trig, then I think it'd make sense. That's how some colleges do it, I believe.

I think you could go straight into Calc. Pre-calc is just like Algebra 2/Trig, except it is a bit more complex.
