Ok, I applied for SLS, but was rejected, and now i'm just waiting to be found qualified to compete for admission. I started my file in late December and my "Candidate Webpage" says "Initial Evaluation Pending". Generally, how long does it take admissions to decide wether or not someone is qualified?

It's a rolling admissions process, so as soon as your file is complete the admissions board will start processing your file.

What did your rejection letter say? Mine said I was qualified enough to continue the application process.

Fuzzy,

I was also rejected for SLS, and I think that the website said "Initial Evaluation Pending" until early summer. It could be a couple of months, but stay strong. I got my appointment this week. Don't think that an SLS rejection seriously diminishes your chances of becoming fully qualified.

CWJones,

My letter said ".....Due to the limited number of slots and overall strong records of applicants, we regrettably are unable to select you for participation in this year's program. Please be assured that the decision was based on space contraints for the workshop and the requirements to select the most competitive students. Our decision on the workshop in no way reflects unfavorably upon you or your opportunity to compete for admission to the West Point class of 2012........."

And then it gave information on nominations and stuff. So i don't know if that means they're saying i'm qualified or not. So do i need to do anything or wait for someone to contact me about stuff? I know i need to go ahead and contact my MOC's, and get started with the nomination crap.

It should've said on the third page or so something about the letter "serving as a source of special satisfaction for your family" or something random because you were found potentially competitive. Reread the letter over and you'll find it.

In reading the posts about SLS it is obvious that many feel they are "polishing the apple" in hopes they will be a shoe-in for an appointment by being accepted to the summer course. Don't count on it. The best way to gain an appointment to West Point is to have a strong academic foundation proved by SAT scores, GPA and course load. This is followed up by stellar leadership skills as proven by extracurricular activities such as Boy Scouts, being a team leader, president of the student body, etc. Finally, you must be in good physical shape. These are what will qualify you for West Point admission, NOT gaining acceptance to the Summer Leadership Seminar. Yet every year, there is a group of students and parents alike that belive differently thinking they know best or they have the inside scoop on things. It is a simple truth that more will enter West Point through the normal process than will come from SLS, period. Don't waste your time worrying about it and get on with improving yourself to better your chances. THAT is what will make a difference in gaining admission as well as becoming a better whole person prepared for life.

CWJones,
The last sentence on the third page of my letter said "Because this letter is sent only to outstanding high school juniors, your accomplishments to date should be a source of special satisfaction to you and your family." Is that what you're talkin about?

Yeah, it basically means you will be able to go ahead with the application process. Some people are not found potentially competitive and need to submit new scores before they can continue.

Ok cool. Did your letter say they will send the candidate kit in August 2007?? That seems kinda late to me....

August is when the send the padket to everyone that is competitive.
